About

DF4CR is a program that aims to address the negative impacts of climate change on the world's most vulnerable populations. These include people who depend on natural resources, the poor and vulnerable, and those in dense urban settlements, rural areas, and coastal regions. These groups are disproportionately affected by droughts, high temperatures, wildfires, and other extreme weather events, which threaten their lives, livelihoods, and assets.

The Challenge

The team at BFA carried out extensive research on the impact of climate change and the threats it poses among the world’s most vulnerable. In order to effectively communicate this important information to the audience, Curva worked alongside the BFA team to create an interactive website rather than a static medium. The website was designed to visually represent the data and make it easier for readers to understand and digest. The design and build of the website was a key task for the Curva team.

The Solution

As DF4CR was a new program, the Curva team had the opportunity to develop the brand's logo, color scheme, and visual elements. They built on BFA's existing brand identity, maintaining a link between DF4CR and its parent organization. The logo icon was designed to depict the concept of "climate returning from hot to cold," and also incorporated the logos of other organizations involved in the task force, including PayPal, CGAP, Race to Resilience, World Resource Institute, and BFA Global.

To determine the content and structure of the website, the team at Curva created a low-fi wireframe and prototype that was reviewed by key stakeholders for feedback and alignment. Communicating the essence of DF4CR proved to be a complex process, and the team decided that an explainer video would be the most effective way to convey the program's purpose and operation in a single viewport, reducing the need for website visitors to scroll through long pages of content. After completing the wireframing and prototyping process, the Curva team designed and developed the full website with the actual content.

Scope and constraints

The scope of the DF4CR project included the design and development of a new website, as well as the creation of visual assets and materials to support the launch and promotion of the DF4CR framework. The team at Curva worked closely with BFA to understand the content and messaging that needed to be conveyed, and developed a plan to present this information in an engaging and effective way. One of the main constraints was the need to convey a complex and nuanced message in a way that was accessible and easy to understand for a wide range of audiences. This required careful consideration of the design and layout of the website, as well as the use of visual elements such as infographics and videos to break up the content and make it more engaging.

Outcome and lessons

The DF4CR Framework helps key players access tangible actions and outcomes for addressing the impacts of climate change on the world's most vulnerable populations. Digital finance provides a powerful set of tools for supporting these communities, and the DF4CR program is a major step forward in addressing this pressing need.
