Tulix is a financial management and payment platform that empowers users in Kenya and around the world to share money, budget, and manage their finances more easily with friends and family. Tulix allows users to make payments using mobile money and offers a range of tools and features to help users track and manage their spending, including the ability to create "jars" for specific purposes such as sharing expenses or saving for a goal. Tulix is targeted towards millennials and Gen Z.
Tulix was developed to address the need for a more convenient way for Africans to share money and manage their finances with friends and family. According to a survey conducted by Tulix, 74% of Africans worldwide are willing to share more money with friends and family if they had an easier way to make payments and handle finances. Tulix aims to empower Africans around the world by providing a simple, convenient way to share money and agree on payments for specific needs such as school fees, rent, and food, while also helping users to budget and track their spending.
Curva worked with the Tulix team to understand their goals and develop a solution that would meet the needs of the target audience. This included conducting research on the competitive landscape and user needs, creating wireframes and prototypes to illustrate the user flow, and designing the final product screens. To simplify the payment process, Curva implemented a wallet system that allowed users to add and remove funds and pay bills, and also provided multiple access methods such as QR pay and NFC pay in case of system failures. To introduce the concept of "jars", Curva created three different types of jars that allowed users to share money and track their spending for different purposes: open jars, merchant jars, and goal jars.
At the start of the project, the Tulix team contacted us about a product that had been started but was halted by an agency due to the Ukraine crisis. We tackled this project as a way to give back to the agency that was affected by the crisis. Following that, the background documents and all previously created assets were sent to and thoroughly reviewed by the Curva team.
To ensure that Tulix was accessible and convenient for all users, Curva focused on creating a seamless onboarding experience, simplifying the payment process, and introducing the concept of "jars" to allow users to share money and track their spending more effectively. To achieve these goals, Curva conducted research and data analysis, created prototypes and user flows, and developed the final product design.
As a result of the efforts by Curva, Tulix was able to launch a mobile app that met the needs of its target audience and provided a convenient way for users to share money and manage their finances. The app has been well received by users, and Tulix has seen an increase in adoption and engagement since its launch. One key lesson from the project was the importance of conducting thorough research and usability testing via maze to understand user needs and develop a solution that meets those needs effectively. Another lesson was the value of creating a user-centered design that is simple and intuitive to use, as this helps to increase adoption and engagement with the app.
